she’s luke's girlfriend and best mate. 

mostly, she keeps luke out of trouble.

sometimes she causes her own.

For example...

adventure . matters

this is luke.  he was searching too. 

didn’t know what for exactly, but he sure as hell wasn’t finding it in an office.

he couldn’t stay still. 

couldn’t settle for normal

couldn't settle for "this is it". 

so he didn’t...

at 15 he left home.  left the country 17.  had a kidney cut up and re-attached at 20. got deported at 23.  drank himself into oblivion by 25.  bottomed out and bankrupt at 28.

it was all good fun.

38 now. many adventures had, with many people, in many places... but there’s more to come…

see, the thing about luke is he meets life’s challenges head-on, unadulterated, raw and uncut.

that’s where the real stuff happens.

that means traveling to new places and discovering new things.  good or bad.  in time, it’s all the same.

as long as he’s free from routine, free from rules, free to weave his own stories, and create his own noise.

now, 21 years later after his first big adventure, luke’s at it again…

and this time he’s bringing friends.

that’s a picture of a one way ticket to thailand.

she likes stealing anything that's being given way for free.

she loves helping people (... even when they don’t need helping)

she thinks she’s '8-mile'. (she’s not).

she goes by many names: 

dc, t-rex, babycakes, 4-mile, melza,  melzatron-3000....

luke likes writing, which is good, because people pay him to do it.

luke likes taking photographs too.  but not for money.

he likes thinking, not thinking, and watching other people thinking.

he likes crossfit.  he’s fitter and stronger at 38 than he’s ever been. 

he knows some things, and suspects some stuff, but likes to let people to find out for themselves.

he dislikes boredom, bullies, hypocrites and rules.

luke’s patience is known to be infuriating, and he's quietly biding his time.

for almost 5 years, he’s been honing his ability to work (and earn) from anywhere.

now, all he needs is his trusty laptop, his camera, and someone just crazy enough to come along for the adventure...

luke thinks about life a lot.

one of the things he thinks is that life is as simple or as complicated as you make it.

but you do make it.

there is no one truth.  not when you stop to listen.

it’s just the stories we tell ourselves, about the life we’re living, and the life we want to live.

pain comes when those two stories don’t match up.

contentment comes when they do match up.

adventure comes when you consciously attempt to move from one to the other.

for luke only adventure matters.

and that means finding people like him.

(but not too many)

he’s looking for people who like to be entertained.

for people who crave adventure.

for people who want to make a difference large and small.

for people tired of living with the debt and distrust currently being sold.

for people and who aren’t afraid of difficult questions and honest answers.

is that you?

to step out of the tyranny of normal life and set foot on a real adventure...

then every word he writes will have been worth it.

he’s simply inviting you along for the ride.

he’d like to spend less money lining the pockets of greedy businesses, and use it to build something unique.  something that gives back.

something worth your time and mine.

he’s bored of daily routines, of life in the uk, and the constant fear-mongering of a corporate sponsored media.

he's sick of politics so dumbed down you have to be stupid to believe it

(which he suspects is the point)

he’s deeply unsettled by the re-emergence of racism, nationalism, this growing islamophobia, the rise of trump.

so while he’s watched the world descend into a crap hole it seems badly equipped to climb out of, luke’s been preparing to get the hell out. 

for normal life, the forecast looks choppy.

the time to leave is now...

she likes make-up, and puppies, and shoes.

she dreams of making a home for us (and the puppies) to settle in. 

and she will — but not yet.

first, she’s stepping out of her comfort zone.

blindly following luke into his favourite place.

the complete unknown.

she’s dreading it.

not the adventure.

the “not working”.

actually, let’s re-phrase that.

she’s not ‘not worked’ since she was 19.

and she’s dreading having to rely on luke.

it makes her feel bad, which makes luke happy.

because luke knows that part of this big adventure is reframing demelza’s reality to one where money isn’t the “necessary evil” driving our lives.

luke's creating a life where they no longer have to worry about rent and bills.  where the freedom of choice can be overwhelming.

luke’s got no idea what she’ll end up doing.

(that’s not true, he has a hunch)

but he’s not telling.  and he knows this:

it’s going to be one hell of a ride finding out.

and then, there’s luke…

searching for something, aren’t you.

aren’t we all?

freedom, recognition, peace and quiet, an opportunity, the meaning of life.

excitement.

satisfaction. 

adventure.

we know we want it.  we just don’t know how to find it.

instead of taking the path less travelled we sleepwalk through the same 24 hours every damn day. 

get up.  eat.  commute.  work.  drink.  eat.  netflix.  sleep.  repeat.  

welcome to normal?  yeah, no thanks.  fuck normal.

farm animals have more freedom.   

day after day of walking the path most trodden creates ruts so deep we might never climb out.

but hey, what if jagger got it wrong?  maybe sometimes you do get what you want, not just what you need.

maybe tomorrow will be different.  you’ll get some satisfaction.  you’ll wake up and feel like you matter.  like the universe gives a shit.

who knows, maybe you’ll even find the holy goddam grail tapped under your bus seat?

here’s the truth.  most people don’t like it.

it doesn’t have to be this way.  there are other worlds than these. 

you could stop chasing paycheques.  

you could stop sitting in the same seat, on the same bus, heading to the same office to do the same work, and deal with the same crap every damn day. 

you want adventure?  go find one.

you don’t believe me.  that’s cool.  

you want proof you can turn your back to the normal 9-5 world for good?
